Dr. Álvaro Blasi was invited as a speaker in the section of Dental Aesthetics at the Odontological Seminars of the University of the Basque Country, in Bilbao. The sessions took place on March 1 and 2, 2019 and there were different speakers who presented current topics in Dentistry.
Dr. Blasi presented topics related to dental aesthetics and how new technologies can help us to improve the smile of patients being as conservative as possible. A key factor in the improvement of the smile is to individualize and personalize the smiles, because it is not the same to improve the smile of a man than of a woman and of a person of 30 years that of a person of 60. Nowadays it is possible to design a smile using computer programs, print the prototype with a 3D printer and transfer this design to the patient’s mouth without changing the person’s teeth. This technique is known as Mock Up Digital, it is a tool that helps to start the treatment with an end in mind and in this way the patient participates in his future smile. The patient, in addition to seeing his new smile, can ask for changes in the shape, color and length of the teeth of his smile.
Another aspect that the Doctor emphasized was teamwork among different specialists such as the periodontist, orthodontist, endodontist and maxillofacial surgeon to solve complex clinical situations. When patients have complicated dental problems, and the intervention of different specialists is necessary, a good team coordination is essential so that everyone has a clear plan of action and the patient’s problem is solved as soon as possible.
Finally, Dr. Alvaro Blasi, explained some practical guides to facilitate dentists the choice of different ceramic materials that exist in the market. He presented a table that is used in Blasi Clínica Dental Barcelona, which takes into account the age of the patient, the level of aesthetic requirement and the color that the patient has compared to the color that the patient wants. Considering these factors, it is recommended to use one ceramic or another and thus achieve aesthetic results, but above all, stable over time.
